Yellow Bird is dedicated to protecting Mother Earth. In 2006 Yellow Bird led by Phillip Whiteman Jr., along with the support of Honor the Earth defeated a referendum vote to develop Coal Bed Methane on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Southeastern Montana. Unfortunately a coal referendum passed.
