WINONA LADUKE OF HONOR THE EARTH AND SAM MCCRACKEN OF NIKE WILL SPEAK IN LAME DEER

Yellow Bird Inc. a Native Non Profit Organization based in Lame Deer Montana will be hosting a Community gathering and Honoring of the Fort Robinson Outbreak Spiritual Runners on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 6 pm, Allen Rowland Gymnasium in Lame Deer. This is open to the public. As part of this gathering a meal will be served.
Yellow Bird Inc. founded by Phillip Whiteman Jr., Lynette Two Bulls and Charlene Alden is dedicated to provide programming to preserve our traditional life-ways and language; empower native communities through social change; protect mother earth; promote healthy lifestyles; and to create cultural understanding and integrity.
The Keynote speakers for this gathering are: Winona Laduke, Native American Activist, Environmentalist, Economist and Writer. She was a US Vice Presidential Candidate with Ralph Nader on the Green Party ticket in 20004. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Honor the Earth and the White Earth Land Recovery Project based in Minnesota. Laduke has dedicated her life to working on issues of Sustainable development, renewable energy and food systems.
Sam McCracken, comes from the Sioux and Assiniboine Tribes of Fort Peck Montana. McCracken holds a dream job in the corporate world of sports marketing. He is the General Manager of Native American Business for one of the largest and most influential sports companies, NIKE. McCracken will share his personal story of empowerment with the community as well as awarding the Fort Robinson Runners Nike jackets. This is part of NIKE's initiative to promote healthy activities in Indian Communities.
Additional topics addressed at the gathering are energy development issues affecting the Northern Cheyenne.
