About the Yellow Bird Non-Profit Organization

Yellow Bird Inc. is a federally recognized 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization established in 2006 by Phillip Whiteman Jr. & Lynette Two Bulls in Lame Deer, Montana.

After organizing the Fort Robinson Outbreak Spiritual Run for 13 years and seeing first hand how positive activities like the Run made in the lives of the youth, Phillip and Lynette decided to file for non-profit status to provide additional programming.

Yellow Bird Heove ve ‘keso, is the Northern Cheyenne name of Phillip Whiteman Jr. This name was passed down to him by a man named James Ant who was a community organizer. How appropriate to name the non profit Yellow Bird, Phillip is definitely following is his footsteps.

The Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in eastern Montana lies on a blanket of rich coal. But tribal members have never wanted to mine it, even as mining surrounded them. As Daniel Kraker of Arizona Public Radio reports, that may be changing.

BUSBY - For 10 years, Phillip Whiteman Jr. has been teaching Northern Cheyenne kids about respect and priorities by convincing them to run a 400-mile relay in January. It seems to be paying off. Every year, about 100 tribal members - most of them grade-schoolers - run 400 miles from Fort Robinson, Neb., to a graveyard in Busby.
